What neurobiological mechanisms initiate and terminate migraine attacks?

“The ambition of the Center for Discoveries in Migraine is to improve our understanding of the biological mechanisms behind migraine attacks and – most importantly – use that knowledge to develop new treatments that can help migraine patients around the world.”

—   Center Leader, professor Messoud Ashina

A center dedicated to transforming migraine research

Center for Discoveries in Migraine (CDM) is a Research Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF).

CDM is based at Rigshospitalet and anchored in the Department of Neurology at the Danish Headache Center. CDM opened September 1st, 2025.

The Center for Discoveries in Migraine seeks to reveal the mechanisms that trigger and end migraine attacks through basic research. One goal is to develop new disease-specific treatments within the next 10 years.
