Messoud Ashina is Professor of Neurology at the University of Copenhagen and Senior Consultant at Rigshospitalet, where he is affiliated with the Danish Headache Center. He is internationally recognized as a leading expert in migraine and headache disorders and has played a key role in advancing the scientific understanding of migraine mechanisms over the past decades. His research focuses on the biological processes that initiate and sustain migraine attacks, including the role of neuropeptides such as CGRP and PACAP, as well as neuronal excitability and pain pathways.
Ashina has contributed extensively to the field through a large body of high-impact scientific publications and has been actively involved in shaping international research agendas. He has served as President of the International Headache Society and collaborates with leading research institutions worldwide. As Center Leader of the Center for Discoveries in Migraine (CDM), he leads interdisciplinary efforts to translate fundamental discoveries into new, targeted treatments for patients living with migraine.

A series of complementary animal experiments will clarify where and how molecular migraine triggers act, forming an integrated picture of migraine neurobiology. Central to this work is the hemi-skull model, which provides direct access to the trigeminal nerve and meninges.
